Mike Packer, Partner, QED Investors

Mike is a Partner at QED, focusing on supporting the portfolio and finding new investment opportunities – with a current focus on Latin America as a region. Mike is passionate about finding the next wave of fintech’s disruptive entrepreneurs and business models – particularly in lending, payments, and anything that helps Small Businesses thrive. Prior to QED, Mike spent 10 years with Capital One working across several functions and business lines developing a skill set in strategy and analytics. He has always been drawn to data-based strategies and has broad experience in credit risk management, product development, decision sciences, data analytics, testing strategies, marketing, and financial management. In his last role at Capital One, Mike led Small Business lending and was charged with growing the portfolio in the face of growing fintech competition.

Monica Brand Engel, Partner, Quona Capital

Monica Brand Engel is an entrepreneur and investor, having launched various funds and products aimed at broadening financial inclusion. She is the co-founding partner of Quona Capital—a venture firm focused on fintech for inclusion in emerging markets. Quona is the investment manager for the Accion Frontier Inclusion Fund, the first global, third-party fintech fund for inclusion, and its successor, the Accion Quona Inclusion Fund. Monica spent her formative years in Silicon Valley, where she helped launch a $50 million multi-bank lending intermediary to finance small businesses. Monica also worked at Calvert Ventures and Anthuri Ventures—early-stage equity vehicles based in Bethesda, Maryland and Cape Town, respectively. While living in South Africa, Monica founded Anthuri Catalysts to prepare early-stage companies for investment.

Andy Mattson, CPA, Partner, Moss Adams

Andy has been providing tax solutions to start-ups and other technology companies in Silicon Valley since 1985. His specialties include corporate, partnership, and individual tax and compensation planning; stock option taxation and planning; and international taxation. Andy has been nationally recognized for his involvement with and contributions to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants to help shape tax policy and rules. Andy also heads the Brazil Practice for Moss Adams and is the winner of the Moss Adams 2014 Technical Excellence Award in the Partners Category.

Erik Weinapple, CPA, Senior Manager, Moss Adams

Erik specializes in financial services, blockchain, cryptocurrency, fintech, and real estate. He works with venture capital funds, hedge funds, private equity, miners, token sales, alternative investment funds, and provides tax compliance and consulting services. Erik’s focus is mainly on funds, businesses, partnerships, and some high net worth. He helps clients with onshore and offshore U.S. filing requirements and issuance of K-1s. He also supports clients through IRS examinations, and has dealt with some of the first crypto-related audits.
