New Resources to Find Federal Funding for Tribes

Tribes and Tribal-serving organizations seeking federal funding should familiarize themselves with new resources for identifying funding opportunities, in addition to the grants.gov website. These resources are the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ (BIA) Access to Capital Clearinghouse and the Health Resources & Services Administration’s (HRSA) Tribal Affairs websites.

How to Assess Funding Opportunities

The BIA Access to Capital Clearinghouse lists opportunities from over 15 federal agencies and can be sorted by:

  • Categories of funding such as grant, loan, or cooperative assistance
  • Funding activity such as health care, public health, infrastructure, agriculture, and security
  • Eligible applicant types such as government, business, or individual
  • Specific federal agencies and departments

There are currently roughly 600 funding opportunities. Filtering to just health care or public health-related opportunities available to Tribal governments, there are currently over 170 federal funding programs listed.

HRSA has recently launched their redesigned Tribal Affairs website, aimed to improve accessibility and transparency of funding opportunities for Tribes and Tribal-serving organizations.

The updated Tribal Affairs website includes:

  • An explanatory page about the Tribal Advisory Council formed by HRSA to provide guidance on policies and activities impacting Tribal entities
  • An easily accessible search query for HRSA-funded grant opportunities
  • Information about Tribal Consultations and Listening Sessions
